Aaron ben Elijah
φιλόσοφος
Aaron ben Elijah was a renowned Karaite Jewish theologian, often regarded as the most prominent figure in his field. To differentiate him from another notable theologian, Aaron ben Joseph of Constantinople, he is commonly referred to as "the Younger". Born between 1328 and 1329, Aaron ben Elijah would go on to become a key figure in the development of Karaite thought. His life's work was deeply rooted in the philosophical traditions of his community.
Aaron ben Elijah spent a significant portion of his life in Constantinople, a major hub of Karaite activity during his time. However, he is also associated with Nicomedia, another city where he lived and worked. This connection has led some to refer to him as Aaron ben Elijah of Nicomedia, serving as a distinction from his contemporary, Aaron ben Elijah of Constantinople. Through his contributions to philosophy, Aaron ben Elijah left a lasting impact on the Karaite community, and his influence endured until his death in 1369.
