Aaron of Neustadt

Aaron of Neustadt, also known as Aaron Blümlein, was a prominent Austrian Talmudist who played a significant role in the Jewish scholarly community of his time. Alongside Shallom of Neustadt and Jaekel of Vienna, he formed a notable triumvirate of Talmudic scholars in Austria during the late 14th and early 15th centuries. As a respected teacher, Aaron instructed his nephew, Israel Isserlein, who often referenced his uncle's opinions and decisions in his own works.

Aaron's contributions to Jewish scholarship include a digest titled Hilkot Niddah, which was noted by Israel Isserlein. Additionally, a collection of his sermons, although now largely lost, is known through citations in the works of Jacob Mölln and Isserlein. Tragically, Aaron's life was cut short when he suffered a martyr's death in Vienna on March 13, 1421. His legacy, however, endured through the works of his students and colleagues, who continued to reference and build upon his teachings.
