Abraham Lewinsky

German rabbi (1866–1941)

Abraham Lewinsky was a prominent German rabbi who lived from 1866 to 1941. Born on March 1, 1866, in Loslau, Upper Silesia, Kingdom of Prussia, he went on to pursue higher education at the University of Breslau from 1884 to 1887, where he earned his Ph.D. Concurrently, he studied at the Jewish Theological Seminary in Breslau to become a rabbi. His academic and rabbinical training laid the foundation for his future career as a spiritual leader in the Jewish community.

Lewinsky's rabbinical career spanned several decades, with notable appointments in Weilburg and the Land Rabbinate of Hildesheim in the Province of Hanover. He served as rabbi in Weilburg starting in 1890 and later became the land rabbi of Hildesheim, a position he held until his retirement in 1935. After a long and dedicated career, Abraham Lewinsky passed away on December 18, 1941, in Mainz, People's State of Hesse, leaving behind a legacy as a respected German rabbi of his time.
