Betty Comden

Betty Comden was a renowned American dramatist and lyricist, active in the film industry during the mid-20th century. Born in 1917, she established a long-standing writing partnership with Adolph Green, which endured for six decades and earned recognition as the longest-running creative collaboration in theatre history. This prolific duo made significant contributions to both Hollywood musicals and Broadway shows, leaving an indelible mark on the entertainment industry.
Comden's notable collaborations included working with esteemed composers Jule Styne and Leonard Bernstein, resulting in some of the most iconic musicals of the era. Her work as part of the "Freed unit" at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer also yielded considerable success, particularly with the classic film Singin' in the Rain.
