Fanny Hensel

Fanny Hensel was a prominent German pianist and composer of the early Romantic era, born in 1805. She was a prolific creator, producing over 450 compositions that showcased her mastery of various musical forms. Her works included a range of chamber music pieces, such as a string quartet, piano trio, and piano quartet, as well as larger-scale compositions like an orchestral overture and four cantatas. Additionally, she wrote numerous solo piano pieces and lieder, demonstrating her versatility and skill as a composer.

Despite her notable talent and technique as a pianist, Hensel preferred to perform within her family circle, rarely giving public concerts. As a result, many of her compositions remained unpublished during her lifetime, with over 250 lieder and more than 125 solo piano pieces awaiting discovery. Hensel's life and work were marked by a dedication to music, and she continued to compose until her death in 1847. Through her extensive and varied oeuvre, she left a lasting legacy as a significant figure in the history of German music.
