Shalom Sharabi
Orthodox rabbi and kabbalist
Shalom Sharabi was a prominent Orthodox rabbi and kabbalist who lived from 1720 to 1777. Born in Yemen, he went on to become a respected figure in the Jewish community, serving as a Halachist, Chazzan, and Kabbalist. His expertise and knowledge earned him the position of Rosh Yeshiva at the prestigious Bet El Yeshiva in Jerusalem's Old City, where he played a significant role in shaping the next generation of Jewish leaders.
Sharabi's legacy extends beyond his own accomplishments, as he was also the patriarch of a notable family. His daughter married Rabbi Hayyim Abraham Gagin, a prominent rabbi in Jerusalem, and their descendants went on to achieve great things. Sharabi's son, Yitzhak Mizrahi Sharabi, and grandson, Chief Rabbi Chaim Abraham Gagin, were both respected figures in their own right. Additionally, Sharabi is the great-great-grandfather of Shem Tob Gaguine, who would come to be known as the "Keter Shem Tob," further solidifying Sharabi's place in Jewish history.
