Polish Hasidic rebbe
Rabbi Elimelech Szapira of Grodzhisk was a prominent figure in Polish Hasidism during the 19th century. Born in 1823, he would go on to become a leading Hasidic rebbe in Poland, earning a significant following. His spiritual guidance was influenced by the Rizhiner Rebbe, whom he followed as a chosid. This affiliation played a role in shaping his own approach to Hasidic leadership.
Following the passing of his father, known as the Sorof of Mogelnica, Rabbi Elimelech Szapira took on the responsibility of leading the Grodzhisk chasidim. Under his guidance, the community flourished, and he became renowned as a respected and influential Hasidic rebbe of his time. Rabbi Elimelech Szapira passed away in 1892, leaving behind a legacy in the world of Polish Hasidism.
