Marie-Théodore Ratisbonne

Jewish convert and Catholic priest and founder (1802–1884)

Marie-Théodore Ratisbonne was a French individual who underwent a significant transformation in his life, converting from Judaism to Catholicism. Born in 1802, he would go on to pursue a path of devotion, becoming a Catholic priest and eventually a missionary. Although his early background was rooted in a business environment, his true calling lay in the realm of spirituality.

As a priest, Ratisbonne dedicated himself to his faith, and his commitment led to the founding of the Congregation of Our Lady of Sion. This endeavor was not undertaken alone, as he was joined by his brother, Marie-Alphonse Ratisbonne, who shared his vision and passion. Together, they worked towards the goals of their congregation, with Marie-Théodore Ratisbonne continuing to serve until his passing in 1884. Through his life's work, Ratisbonne left a lasting legacy, one that reflected his devotion to his faith and his community.
